Field Hockey Earns Win at Cornell Eagles move to 7-8 heading into their final game of the season Game Stats -- October 28, 2001 Princeton, N.J. -- American field hockey played solidly to hold onto their lead and win, 3-2, at Cornell this afternoon. Junior Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands), senior Elizabeth Augustine (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and sophomore Karlijn Schellens (Valkenswaard, Netherlands/Conestoga (Pa.)) each scored for the Eagles in the victory. Cornell got on the board first less than fifteen seconds into the game but American responded at 18:33 when Aguilar sent a shot inside the circle past the keeper on an assist from Schellens. American scored again right before the half at 34:33 when Augustine finished off an extended Eagles' offensive attack. Freshman Hope Mandel (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) and sophomore Melissa Snyder (Gathersburg, Md./QUince Orchard) each earned an assist on the second goal. In the second period, Cornell scored with less than twenty minutes left in the game, but Aguilar soon created a scoring opportunity for her team on a penalty stroke. Schellens knocked in the stroke to earn the game-winner and the Eagles came away with a defeat of Cornell.
