American Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette, 4-1, in Final Regular Season Game
Eagles will face the Leopards again this weekend at the Patriot League Championship

Game Stats -- October 29, 2001

Easton, Pa. -- The American field hockey team had trouble getting started against Lafayette today and lost, 4-1, in its final regular season game. The Eagles will enter the Patriot League Tournament this weekend as the third seed.

American keeper Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) kept her team in the game for most of the first half, coming out of the net on several occasions to tackle Leopard attackers. She finished with five total saves in 70 minutes of play.

Lafayette scored first late in the first half when Megan Monahan netted a goal off a penalty corner, assisted by Jennifer Stone and Meredith Hahn. Meredith Hahn then notched one more goal for the Leopards to put her team up 2-0 before the end of the half.

The Leopards' final two scores came in the first half of the second period when Beth Gulotta tallied her seventh season goal on an assist from Hahn. Monahan finished off the scoring for Lafayette by netting her 18th season goal on an unassisted effort.

American's lone goal came with 1:42 left in the game when sophomore Melissa Snyder (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) found the back of the net after a rebounded Eagle corner resulted in a skirmish in front of the goal. The score marked her sixth season goal.

American finishes with a 7-9 overall regular season record in 2001, and a 4-3-0 record while playing in the Patriot League. The Eagles will gear up in the next few days for the Patriot League Tournament and the rematch against Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3. The winner of the Patrior League Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
