Field Hockey Proves Mettle with 2-1 OT Win Over Colgate Finn, Aguilar push American ahead with goals October 12, 2002 | Stats
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- For the second time in as many games, senior All-America candidate Magdalena Aguilar signaled the final game horn with a game-winning goal for the American University field hockey team, which defeated Patriot League foe Colgate 2-1 in overtime Saturday. The Eagles improve to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in Patriot League play while the Raiders drop to 4-7 overall and 2-3 in league action. Aguilar, who is second in the league in scoring with 12 goals and two assists, ripped a shot past CU keeper Sara Corcoran (8 saves) at the 77:31 minute, retaining an early lead that AU couldn't hold onto through the second half. The tally was set up by a corner and assisted by senior Kate Finn and junior Melissa Snyder. Finn found the back of the net for the first time this season nine minutes into the second half when she unleashed a shot 12 yards out from the right side - an unassisted score. The Derwood, Md. native now has one goal and five assists in 2002. However, the Raiders fought back courtesy of a goal by team leading-scorer Ashley Schneider, who pushed in a rebound on a corner at 63:31. In net for American was freshman Lindsay Carroll, who earned her third win of the season with a 13-save effort. Playing well for the Eagles were Maureen Daniel and Caroline Vo. AU heads to Georgetown Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. start. Game Summary
