Field Hockey Earns Three Player of the Week Honors
October 14, 2003 WASHINGTON - Senior Melissa Snyder (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard), senior Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown), and freshman Camila Infante (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) all took home field hockey Patriot League Player of the Week honors for the week of October 12, 2003. The Eagles are now 10-1 overall, 3-0 in the Patriot League and have won nine consecutive games. Snyder, the Offensive Player of the Week, receives this award for the first time this season after leading the team to a 5-0 victory against Lehigh. Out of the five shots that Snyder took on Saturday, four were able to make it past the Mountain Hawk goalkeeper, and into the back of the cage. She now leads the Eagles with nine goals this season. Infante has been an instrumental part of the team all week, scoring game-winning goals against both James Madison and Lehigh. As a freshman, Infante is a league leader in both assists, and shots per game. This is her first Rookie of the Week award. As the Eagles starting goalkeeper, Miller takes home the Patriot League Defender of the Week for the fourth time this season. With the help of her defense, Miller was able to keep the ball out of the cage during the 18 corner shots taken by JMU. Against Lehigh, Miller gained her fourth shutout of the year, only facing five shots the entire game. Although the Eagles were able to take home two important victories this past week, they will be challenged this weekend as they take on Patriot League rival Holy Cross. Both teams are currently undefeated in Patriot League play. American University,
which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10
women’s sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership
in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University
has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s
cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s
soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball,
and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
