Villagra
Named to 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I
WASHINGTON - American University field hockey standout Javiera Villagra (Santiago, Chile/Santiago College) has been named to the 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I All-America Second Team. Villagra is the third athlete in AU field hockey history to be named All-America Team. Stacey Siu Butt was named to the First-Team All-America in 1996, while her teammate Julie Behr was named to the Third-Team All-America in 1995. Over the course of the season, Villagra has led the team to the best season in school history, including the Patriot League championship and a berth in the NCAA tournament. Villagra scored 17 goals this season, including two against Towson and Fairfield and four against Quinnipiac in the NCAA Play-in game. “Javiera had an outstanding year and I am so happy for her and our program that she has received this well deserved honor,” American University Field Hockey Head Coach Steve Jennings said. “Her leadership on the field, technical skills and tactical awareness were instrumental in our success this season.” In addition to being honored as a selection on the All-America Second Team, Villagra has been named to the Patriot League All-League First Team.
