AU Places Third on NFHCA Division I National Academic Team List
Eagles finish behind Stanford and LaSalle with 3.37 GPA

The AU field hockey team place third on the NFHCA Division I National Academic Team List with a 3.37 GPA.

WASHINGTON – The American University field hockey team has been selected to receive the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Team Award, and holds the third highest team grade point average in the nation.

Teams selected to receive the National Academic Team Award have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 during the fall semester of the 2003-04 academic year. With all student-athletes listed on the institution's NCAA squad list included when calculating the team's average, the AU field hockey team posted a 3.37, just behind Stanford University and LaSalle University. Patriot League rivals, Bucknell placed in fourth in a tie with Yale, with a 3.32 grade point average.

Led by freshman Heidi Hershberger with a 3.94 grade point average in political science, the Eagles placed 12 student-athletes on the NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, the most of any Patriot League School.
