Miller Again Named PL Defensive Player of the Week
Senior registered two shutouts over the weekend

Miller has not allowed a goal in over 160 minutes.

WASHINGTON — American University senior goalie Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) was named the field hockey Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for September 15. It is the second straight week that she won the honor.

Miller posted a pair of shutouts this past weekend, helping the Eagles defeat both Pacific (1-0) and Rutgers (4-0). Overall, Miller has not given up a goal in over 160 minutes and has notched a shutout in three of AU's four AU wins. She now has nine career shutouts. For the year she has a 0.57 goals against average, which places her fourth nationally. As a team American is fourth in scoring defense.

Miller faced five shots against Pacific and collected two saves in an absolute downpour. She faced plenty of pressure late, but never let the Tigers get on the scoreboard. Against Rutgers the game was scoreless until the 53:47 mark, and Miller was sharp, collecting three saves on six shots.

American is now 4-1-0 and will open the Patriot League portion of its season at Lafayette. The game will be on Saturday, September 20 at 1 p.m. The Eagles received 11 votes in this week's 2003 STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women's sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball, and a regular-season title in men's basketball.
