Miller Named PL Defensive Player of the Week
Senior had 17 saves versus Rider

Miller collected her seventh career shutout earlier in the week against Longwood.

WASHINGTON — American University senior goalie Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) was named the field hockey Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for September 8, after helping AU to a pair of wins this past week.

Miller started off the week by collecting the seventh shutout of her career versus Longwood. She had four saves and faced four shots against the Lancers. Against Richmond Miller gave up just two goals in nearly 90 minutes of play. She had two saves and faced 12 shots in the double overtime loss to the Spiders. Miller saved her best for last, as she stopped 17 of the 18 shots she faced against Rider. AU won the game 3-1. Overall, Miller had 23 saves for the week and a .885 save percentage.

American is 2-1-0 and will host two games this week. On Friday, September 12 they will take on Pacific at 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday they will face Rutgers at noon.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women's sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men's cross country, women's cross country, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's tennis, women's tennis and women's volleyball, and a regular-season title in men's basketball.
