Sept. 7, 2002

BOONE, NC -- Taking control with a 1-0 advantage at the half, the American University field hockey team defeated Appalachian St. Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 to improve to 2-1 on the season behind the scoring efforts of senior All-America candidate Magdalena Aguilar, junior Melissa Snyder and freshman Maureen Daniels.

All three goals were scored on corners as the Eagles earned 11 to Appalachian St.'s five. The win marked the first shutout of the season and fourth in AU goalkeeper Laura Miller's career
. Miller finished with nine saves.

Aguilar assisted on Sndyer's goal in the opening half and put one home off assists from senior Kate Finn and Snyder. Later in the second half, Daniels netted an unassisted shot for the 3-0 final.

Playing well for the Eagles was Finn, who maintained constant pressure in the midfield.

"We played a lot better in the second half," said AU Head Coach Steve Jennings.

American head to Davidson on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start.
