AU Field Hockey Sweeps Weekend With Two Wins
Aguilar scores second and third goals of season over Wildcats

Sept. 8, 2002 | Stats

Senior Magdalena Aguilar scored both goals for AU.

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Behind a pair of goals by senior All-America candidate Magdalena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands), the American University women's field hockey team clinched its second straight win of the weekend with a 2-1 victory over Davidson College Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats got off to a hot start, tallying a goal at the 15 minute mark past AU junior keeper Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown), who made five saves.

Aguilar, an All-Patriot League First-Team selection in 2001, scored the equalizer on a reverse stick off a pass from freshman Heather Maranzano (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) with one minute left in the first.

The Eagles dominated the second half as they outshot Davidson by a 10-0 margin and earned eight corners to the Wildcats' zero. With 12:30 left in the game, Aguilar scored the gamewinner when she fired a shot off a corner and into the net. Assisting on the play were senior Kate Finn (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) and junior Melissa Snyder (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard).

"We're working toward being able to finish better," said Head Coach Steve Jennings. "We're looking forward to the Maryland Invitational."
