Miller
Picked as PL Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 9, 2002
WASHINGTON — Laura Miller (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown), a junior on the American University field hockey team, was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a sizzling start and a 3-1 record on the 2002 season. On Aug. 31, Miller registered 18 saves and one in a crucial sudden death penalty stroke series to help AU to a 2-1 victory in the season opener. She also made nine saves in a 3-0 win over Appalachian St. on Sept. 7. It marked her first shutout of the year and fourth in her career. The Eagles return to action Friday when they face Boston University Friday and Massachusetts on Sunday. American University,
which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10
women’s sports and nine for men, recently completed its inaugural
year of membership in the Patriot League. The University had an extremely
successful year to date on respective fields of play, capturing league
championships in men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, men’s
tennis and women’s tennis, and regular-season titles in men’s
basketball and women’s lacrosse.
