Terriers Snatch Win from AU on Penalty Stroke
Aguilar claims second by herself on AU all-time goals list

Sept. 13, 2002 | Stats

Senior Magdalena Aguilar's lone goal wasn't enough to beat the Terriers.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior All-America candidate Magdalena Aguilar claimed the No. 2 slot for goals in American University field hockey history outright with her 42nd career tally Friday against Boston University, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Terriers, who were victorious by a 2-1 margin at the Maryland Tournament.

BU junior Dalinda Banuelos converted a penalty stroke past American goalkeeper Laura Miller into the lower left pocket at 31:54 to give her team the lead as Caitlin Cassara scored the gamewinner early on in the second half.

Aguilar, who currently has four goals in 2002, blasted a shot into the right side of the cage off a corner pass for the Eagles' single score.

AU faces Massachusetts at 11 a.m. on Sunday in the final day of the Maryland Tournament.
