No. 4 JMU Gain Early Lead, Beats AU 5-2
Aguilar finds back of goal twice for Eagles

Sept. 18, 2002 | Stats

Aguilar scored twice in the second half for Eagles.

HARRISBURG, Va. -- American University senior attacker Magdalena Aguilar recorded a pair of goals but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 4 James Madison as the Dukes were victorious 5-1 Wednesday night at Bridgeworth Stadium.

Aguilar converted on a reverse chip seven minutes into the second half off of assists from Melissa Snyder and Kate Finn and then weaved through the defense on a corner reception for an unassisted shot at 67:46 to bring the score to its 5-2 final.

The Eagles earned eight more corners than JMU at a 14-6 clip but were outshot 20-11. AU senior keeper Laura Miller registered 11 saves.

In the first half, three different Dukes scored including Alissa Santanna, Janelle Perlis (2 goals) and Kristen Sondermann. The Eagles were outshot by an 11-2 margin by held a 4-2 advantage in corners. Also scoring for JMU was Veerle Goudswaard, who pulled right on Miller and reversed sticked one into the opposite corner.

AU hosts Lafayette in its first Patriot League meeting of the 2002 season Sunday at 11 a.m. at College Park.
