Eagles Even Out at 5-5 with 2-0 Loss to Temple
Finn stands out in backfield for American

Sept. 29, 2002 | Stats

Kristen Collins made her second consecutive start for the Eagles.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Playing with a kicking back in place of a goalkeeper, the American University field hockey team lost 2-0 to Atlantic-10 rival Temple Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles, with a 5-5 overall record and 1-1 Patriot League standing, finish the weekend with a 1-1 record after defeating Lehigh 2-1 on Saturday.

TU's Melissa DeCesaris scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, the first an unassisted field goal while the second was off a corner. The Eagles had four corners to Temple's 12.

Playing kicking back for AU was freshman Kristen Collins. In only her second game playing, Collins made four saves in her second consecutive start.

Senior Kate Finn was a focal point in the defensive zone, initiating many of AU's offensive attacks. Junior forward Melissa Snyder kept the pressure on the Owl defense on the front line.

"Kate had great transfers from right to left," said American Head Coach Steve Jennings. "Melissa worked hard up front and was explosive with the ball."

AU resumes Patriot League play Saturday at Fairfield with an 11 a.m. start.
