American Field Hockey is 6-1 and we have no intention of interrupting our winning streak. We captured our sixth win on Wednesday after heading cross-town to take on Georgetown. Not only did we win but we learned a good hard lesson – how to come back and win after being down at half time.

The first half was rough. Though statistically dominating the game we were down 2-1 and had allowed some serious defensive breakdowns. These break downs resulted into corners and ultimately goals. We were frazzled and obviously not playing our best, however, it only took us a few reassuring words from Steve at half time and the team took the game to an entirely different level during the second half.

The last thirty-five minutes of the game proved to be prolific in goals and very exciting. Our offensive corner unit, led by Moei, tied the game shortly after the whistle blew starting the second half. Keeping the pressure on, the girls quickly re-entered the circle and forced a stroke. Camila easily found the back of the net and gave us the first lead of the game. Unable to prevent Georgetown from entering the circle they capitalized on their only shot in the second half. With the game tied again, we were none to happy and the scoring fury began. Heidi scored the game winner off of a beautiful setup by Camila. This goal was followed by Javi’s and finally another assist and goal by Camila and Heidi.

Despite our slow start by the end of the game there was no question as to who was the better team. Finally! Georgetown in recent years has been a challenge for us. Obviously this year we changed the pattern and will hopefully continue for years to come.

We have this weekend off to increase our strength and momentum before finishing off our game against St. Joe’s on Wednesday, October 1st at the University of Delaware. We have twenty-nine minutes to add to our two goals and re-start a streak of shutouts.
