Jan. 25, 2002 WASHINGTON -- American Universitys mens golf announced today that they will be participating in the Kauai Collegiate Cup at Princeville in Kauai, Hawaii from March 20-23. The tournament is hosted by Western Kentucky. At the Kauai Collegiate Cup, the golf team will be playing on the Princeville Resort Makai Course. The 6,886 yard Robert Trent Jones designed course plays to a par 72. It is ranked as one of the World's Top 50 Resort Courses as well as being in America's Top 100 Greatest Golf Courses for 17 years. The Princeville Resort Makai Course has hosted a number of national and international events including the 1978 World Cup. This will be the third year for the Kauai Collegiate Cup. With the course overlooking Hanalei Bay, many college teams are making the trip for this event as it has become one of the premier March tournaments. Boston College, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan and Atlantic 10 Champions Xavier will be among the squads participating in the tournament. While in Hawaii, the Eagles will be staying at the Kauai Coconut Beach Resort on Kauai's Coconut Coast, Kapaa, Kauai. In addition, they will participate in a Pre-Tournament Luau to be held Thursday, March 21 at the Sunspree Holiday Inn Resort. American golf opens its 2002 spring season March 4-5, when it takes part in the Winthrop Invitational. The Eagles will host the AU Invitational on March 25-26 at The Gauntlet in Fredericksburg, Va.
