American Golf Announces Signee for 2002-03
Robert McDonald Set to Join Eagles’ Program

November 19, 2001

WASHINGTON -- American University’s men’s golf coach Jim Menditto has announced that Robert McDonald (Reisterstown, Md./The Park School) has signed a National Letter of Intent, and is set to join the program in the coming 2002-03 academic year.

A native of nearby Reisterstown, Md., McDonald has had an excellent prep career, posting several top finishes at various high school and junior events.

Undefeated in conference matches while playing at the No. 1 position for The Park School, he helped lead the program to the conference championship last year. McDonald placed 15th out of 250 golfers at the MIAA State Tournament with a 240 total as a junior and he was named to the MIAA All-Conference Team.

Carding two top-10 finishes in Titleist Junior events during his career, McDonald won the Carroll County Junior Open at Bear Creek last summer, while firing a 75. He also captured the Piney Branch Invitational, shooting a 73.

McDonald has also won the Harford Junior Golf Tour’s (HJGT) Chesapeake Bay Invitational and tied for first at the HJGT Tournament of Champions at Bulle Rock.

American golf opens its 2002 spring season March 4-5, when it takes part in the Winthrop Invitational. The Eagles will host the AU Invitational on March 25-26 at The Gauntlet in Fredericksburg, Va.
