Finishes Eighth At Kauai Collegiate Cup
March 23, 2003 PRINCEVILLE, HI - American University shot a 302 on the second day of the Kauai Collegiate Cup, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, as the Eagles finished the competition in eighth. Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood) posted a 73 on the last day, and 224 for the three rounds, which was played over two days. The 224 was good for a tie for 13th overall in the competition, and he was tops on American’s squad. Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Tx./J.J. Pearce) shot a 78 on the last round, and was the Eagles second-best golfer for the two days, shooting 229 for three rounds. Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) rebounded from a tough first round (83) to post a 75 and 74 in the last two rounds. His final score was 232, which left him tied for 28th overall, and third on the AU squad. Ben Hartman (Jupiter, Fla./SunCoast) finished one stroke back of Schieffer with a 233, and finished in a tie for 32nd. Mark Nihill (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) was 43rd for the tourney with a 244. David Stone (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) competed as a individual, and posted a 230 for three rounds and finished 27th. Matt Michaels (Hamilton, Canada/Westdale Secondary) and Paul Servidio (Carmel, N.Y./Harrison) also both competed as individuals for AU and shot 246 and 259 respectively. Marquette won the
first and last rounds, and posted a final team-winning score of 878. Western
Kentucky, the host school, shot a 289 on the last day to capture second-place.
