SEWICKLEY, Pa. - American University finished 4th after the first round of the Robert Morris Invitational (out of 10 schools), despite some rather tough weather conditions. Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Tx./J.J. Pearce) shot a 37 on the front nine, and finished with a 42 overall, as conditions deteriorated. The 79 was good for a three-way tie for 10th. Rob MacDonald (Reistertown, Md./Park) was second after shooting an 80 for the day. Like Kaplan, he shot a low first round (38) before following it up with a 42 on the back nine. Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood) shot a 39 for the first nine holes, and like Kaplan and MacDonald, shot a 42 on the last nine holes to finish with an 81 on the day. The 81 left Kief tied for 17th overall. Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) shot 43 for both rounds to finish with an 86 while Mark Nihill (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) also scored an 86 (42/44). St. Francis leads after the first day with a team score of 315. Eric Couture of St. Francis and Mike Namey of Duquesne each shot a 76 to share the lead after the first round. Team Results
