Shagin Leads Eagles at Winthrop-Waterford Invitational
Eagles in a tie for 17th at end of first round

Todd Shagin shot and even 39-39 in the first round of the Winthrop-Waterford Invitational.

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The American University golf team closed out the first day of competition at the Winthrop-Waterford Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. in a tie for 17th place, shooting a team score of 322 for the first round.

Leading the Eagles, freshman Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) posted an even 39-39 for the first 18 holes for a team-low of 78 and a five-way tie for 37th place.

Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) shot a 39 in the front nine and a 44 in the back to help him to 11 above par and a six-way tie for 72nd place. Phil Keif (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) was not far behind, shooting 84 for the day and a four-way tie for 78th place. Rounding out the first 18 for the Eagles, Rob McDonald (Reisterstown, Md./Park) shot 85.

The Eagles will return to the greens for the second round of play, Tuesday, March 9.
