American Finishes Fifth at Patriot League Championship
April 25, 2004 | Stats HAMILTON, N.Y. - Todd Shagin (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) finished 11th to lead the Eagles to a fifth-place finish in the Patriot League Golf Championship. Shagin, a freshman, shot a 38 for the first nine holes of the day, which completed the second round and an 83 for the final 18. Weather conditions including wind, rain and hail led to higher scores for everyone over the course of the second day. Junior Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood), who was just one shot behind Shagin after the first round, finished two shots behind Shagin for the tourney. He shot a 238 and placed 13th. He shot a 38 for the first nine holes of the day, a completion of the second round, and then fired a 79 for the third round. Senior Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce) started off the final day on a hot streak as he shot a 37 for the final nine holes of the second round. He finished the third round with an 83 and placed in a tie for 17th for the tourney with a score of 239. Junior Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) finished up the second round with a 79 after scoring a 41 on the final nine holes and shot an identical 79 for the third round. Schieffer finished with a 240 for the three rounds, which was good for 20th overall. Senior Paul Servidio (Carmel, N.Y./Harrison) contributed an 82 in the second round to the team scoring. Servidio shot a 263 for the tournament, good for 43rd. Playing in his last tournament Matt Michaels (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary) shot a three-round total of 266, good for 45th. Individually. Bill Hurley of Navy led everyone with a 223 for 54 holes. It is the fifth time in the last seven years that a Navy athlete has been the top finisher. Army took home team honors after rebounding from a slow start. It was the second championship in three years for the Black Knights. The tournament was held at the Seven Oaks Golf Course in Hamilton, N.Y., which is a par 72 course and 6,915 yards in length.
