American Second After First Day of Lafayette Invitational
Chris Schieffer tied for first with round of 72

Chris Schieffer led AU with a 72 in the first round.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Chris Schieffer (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) shot a 35 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine to finish with a 72, which left him in a tie for first place after the first round of the Lafayette Invitational.

The Eagles are in second place after shooting 297 as a team. Just one shot behind Schieffer was senior Seth Kaplan (Dallas, Texas/J.J. Pearce), who shot a one-over 73. The score was good for a tie for sixth.

Senior Matt Michaels (Hamilton, Ontario/Westdale Secondary) had his best round of the spring with a 76 while junior Phil Kief (Kingwood, Tx./Kingwood) also shot a 76. Both are tied for 23rd.

Schieffer is tied with four others for the first spot. Binghamton leads the tournament with a team score of 296.

The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,772-yard Center Valley Golf Club in Center Valley, Pa. Final round action will begin Saturday morning at 7:50 a.m. with a shotgun start.
