FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- Brian Hollowell and Lee Fisher closed with a 75 and 76, respectively, in the second round to lead Longwood to the team title at the second annual American University Golf Inviational. The 36-hole event was played at The Gauntlet at Curtis Park, which featured a par-72, 6,857-yard layout. American placed in a tie for second with Loyola, totalling a two-round 624. Wes Cupp paced the American contingent, finishing in a tie for fifth place with a 154 total. He opened with a 74, and then battled to a closing 80 this afternoon. Weather was a major factor today as the players had to deal with a chilling wind in addition to fog and a slight drizzle. Four Eagles dotted the Top 15 list, as Seth Kaplan came back from an opening round 82 to card a 74 in the second en route to a tie for 10th place. Mark Nihill placed 14th after going 76-82 for a 158 total, and David Stone tied for 15th with a 159 total (77-82). Chris Schieffer finished out of the American scoring after going 88-79 (167). Rounding out the top five teams were Monmouth in fourth place (646) and Hofstra and St. Francis (PA) in a tie for fifth (660). American returns to action on Monday and Tuesday, April 1-2, when it takes part in the George Washington Invitational. Players are set to tee off beginning at 8:00 a.m. each day.
