American Ties for Third at Rehoboth Beach Invitational

Nihill fires final round 70, Schieffer 71 to help Eagles' cause

Chris Schieffer fired a final-round 71 en route to a tie for eighth at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational. Schieffer led American with a 147 total, helping the Eagles to a tie for third place overall.

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE -- American posted a second-round 291 to rally for a third-place finish at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational held at Kings Creek Country Club.

The Eagles, who opened the one-day 36-hole event with a 316, stood in 10th place after the first 18. Rutgers won the team title with a 602 total, while Iona placed second at 603. Columbia tied with American for third at 607.

Led by Mark Nihill's two-under 70, and Chris Schieffer's one-under 71, American posted its best team round of the season, while Nihill's 70 was American's best individual round of the spring.

Schieffer, who placed tied for eighth, paced the American contingent with a 147 total after opening with a 76 in the morning round. Nihill was just two shots back of Schieffer at 149 (79-70), good for a tie for 11th overall.

Wes Cupp went 77-74 for a 151 total, tying for 16th, while Matt Michaels rounded out the American scoring with a tie for 43rd after going 84-76. Seth Kaplan was the fifth Eagle to take part in the event, finishing at 170 (88-82).

The Eagles are now preparing for this weekend's Patriot League Championship, hosted by Army, in West Point, NY, this Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21. Tee times are set to begin both days, as teams vie for the league title, and accompanying NCAA Tournament berth.
