ISSUE, MD -- Seth Kaplan totaled a five-over 149 over 36 holes to help lead American to a fifth-place finish at the George Washington Invitational, held at Swan Point Yacht and Country Club. Kaplan navigated the par-72, 6,761-yard layout with a four-over 76 in the first round, and carded a one-over 73 in the second. Chris Schieffer came in with a strong 75 after the first round, but ballooned to an 83 in round two to finish in a tie for 22nd. Yale ran away with the team title, firing a two-round 602 to top host George Washington by 12 strokes. Lehigh placed third with a 617 total, and Virginia was fourth at 619. American totaled a 626. Wes Cupp placed in a tie for 27th overall with a 159 total. After an opening-round 83, he came back with a solid 76 in round two. David Stone went 78-86 for a 164 placing in a tie for 39th, while Matt Michaels went 84-82 (166) to finish in a tie for 44th. American returns to
action on Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, when it takes part in the Navy
Invitational. Tee times begin at 8:00 a.m. at the par-71 USNA Golf Course
in Annapolis with 18 holes set for both days.
