WEST POINT, NY -- Wes Cupp fired an opening-round 72 to lead American, but Army placed three players in the 60's to run the lead after the the first round of the Patriot League Golf Championship, hosted at West Point Golf Club. Army was led by Kevin Lee, who fired a 65 in the opening round. He was followed closely by teammates Ryan Hazleton (66) and Scott Manley (69), who helped lead the Black Knights to a 271 total. Navy stands in second place at 285, followed by American and Lehigh in a tie for third at 298. Colgate rounds out the team scoring in fifth place at 300. Seth Kaplan and David Stone each shot 75's today for the Eagles, followed by Chris Schieffer at 76. Mark Nihill and Matt Michaels, who finished out of the team scoring, went 80 and 82, respectively. American will look
to make up ground tomorrow as the second round is set for an 8:00 a.m.
tee-off at West Point Golf Club. The winning team receives an automatic
bid to the NCAA Tournament.
