Places Sixth at Patriot League Championship
WEST POINT, NY -- Wes Cupp placed in a tie for ninth, but it was not enough as Army ran away with the team title to earn the Patriot League Championship. American placed sixth overall, finishing with a 908 three-round total. The championship was held at the West Point Golf Club, which features a par-70, 6,036-yard layout. Cupp opened with a 72 and followed that with a 75 in the second round and final-round 74. Army had two players tie for medalist honors, as Kevin Lee (65-73-71) and Scott Manley (69-69-71) each totaled a 209. Navy's Billy Hurley joined the duo at that number after shooting 67-68-74. Hurley led Navy to a second-place finish at 876, followed by Lehigh at 878, and Colgate in fourth place at 896. Bucknell was one spot ahead of the Eagles in fifth with a 907 total. Holy Cross (938) and Lafayette (974) rounded out the field in seventh and eight place, respectively. Seth Kaplan tied for 19th place with a 229 (75-79-75). Chris Schieffer tied for 22nd position after closing with a final round 72. He opened with a 76, and added an 82 in the second round. David Stone was alone in 26th place, going 74-80-76 to finish with a 231 total. Mark Nihill and Matt Michaels, who finished out of the team scoring, went 80-79-78 and 82-83-81, respectively. American will conclude
its 2002 spring season at the Delaware-Scotty Duncan Invitational, held
at Frog Hollow Country Club next Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.
