Wes Cupp Named to All-Patriot League Golf Team
Senior Concludes Career with Prestigious Honor

WASHINGTON -- On the heels of his ninth-place finish at the Patriot League Golf Championship, Wes Cupp has been named to the All-Patriot League Golf Team.

Cupp, a senior, was the consistent leader of the Eagle golf team during his four-year career, and it was no different in 2002.

He carded four top 10 and five top 20 finishes in 2001-02, including two in top 10's and three top 20's in the spring campaign. He led the squad with a 76.9 stroke average in the spring season. Also highlighting the spring campaign was a tie for fifth at the AU Invitational.

Cupp opened the Patriot League Championship with a 72 and followed that with a 75 in the second round. His final-round 74 allowed him to finish with a 211 total, good for a tie for ninth place overall.

American placed sixth overall at the Patriot League Championship, finishing with a 908 three-round total. The team has two second-place tournament finishes in 2001-02, followed by one third-place finish.

American University is completing its inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League. Its athletics program has captured five regular-season Patriot League titles and four team tournament championships this year. Founded in 1893, American fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 sports for women and nine for men.
