AU Downs James Madison, 63-48, on Homecoming

Doctor nets 1,000th point in Eagles' final CAA game

Vladimir Buscaglia (in red) scored a game-high 18 points for AU today in the school's last-ever CAA contest.

In its final game as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, American beat James Madison, 63-48, today in a CAA game before 2,980 at Bender Arena.
American (7-20, 3-13 CAA) was led by Vladimir Buscaglia (Jr., Geneva, Switzerland/Notre Dame (MA)) who scored a game-high 18 points and connected on 4 of 6 three point attempts. Patrick Doctor (Jr., F, Brandywine, MD/Gwynn Park) added 15 for the Eagles and scored the 1,000th point of his AU career with a three-pointer at 17:47 in the first half. Senior Ronald Hearns (G, Detroit, MI/Denby) had 11 in his final AU contest while former walk-on and fellow senior Bruno Neeser (F, Zurich, Switzerland/St. Buchmann's) scored the only two points of his AU career on a pair of free-throws in the second half. Center Saliou-Binet Telly (Sr., Bamako, Mali/Notre Dame (MA)) added two blocks to finish his career with a school-record 126 blocked shots.

James Madison (11-16, 6-10 CAA) got a team-high 15 points from Chris Williams and nine points off the bench from Pat Mitchell.

With 15:06 to play in the game, a Doctor bucket gave AU its largest lead of the game, a 21-point margin at 40-19. The Dukes cut the deficit to 15 on a Mitchell layup with 9:46 but would get no closer as American would again build a 20 point lead.

In the first half, the Eagles came out with strong defense and held JMU scoreless for the first 3:47 of the game and took an early 8-0 lead. Buscalia scored nine points in the opening half to lead all scorers as the Eagles took a 28-14 lead into the locker room.

The Eagles' season is now complete as they will not play in the CAA tournament which takes place on March 3-5 in Richmond, Va.
