WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Continuing its preparation for the coming 2001-02 season, American's men's basketball team held its first intersquad scrimmage on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

The Eagles will take the floor for its first official preseason exhibition game on Monday, Nov. 5, when they face the Metro South Basketball Club. Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m. in Bender Arena.

Entering its inaugural season as a full member of the Patriot League, American was selected sixth in the preseason poll. Holy Cross, the defending champion, earned 10 first-place votes to garner the top slot. Navy and Colgate followed in second and third, respectively. Lehigh was chosen fourth and Bucknell fifth. Lafayette and Army rounded out the voting of the eight-team league.

The Eagles, under the leadership of second-year Head Coach Jeff Jones, will open the 2001-02 campaign on Saturday, November 17, when it travels to the University of Maryland for a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.

American will play its inaugural Patriot League contest at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., on Wednesday, January 9, at 7:45 p.m. The program's first Patriot League home game is set for Saturday, Jan. 12, as the Eagles host the U.S. Military Academy in Bender Arena at 1:00 p.m..
