February 11, 2002

Glenn Stokes led American to a 2-0 week, including wins over Navy and Colgate last week. He was named the Patriot League's Player of the Week on Feb. 4.
WASHINGTON -- Playing his best basketball of the season in the most important stretch, American University’s Patrick Doctor (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn Park) was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this afternoon, as announced by the league office.

Doctor, a senior forward, averaged 20.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Eagles. He was nearly perfect on the week, as he went 15-of-16 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

He netted 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a 74-59 win at Army last Wednesday. Doctor came back with a career-high 23 points in a 77-74 loss at Lafayette on Saturday, while going a perfect 10-of-10 from the floor.

American has now won five of its last seven games, and sits alone in first place in the Patriot League standings. The Eagles hold a one-game advantage over Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lafayette, which are all tied for second at 6-4.

This is the third time this season American was been honored with a Patriot League Player of the Week, as Steven Miles claimed the award on Jan. 7 and Glenn Stokes was honored last Monday.

American is now 13-10 overall, including its 7-3 mark in Patriot League play. The Eagles have a winning record this late in the season for the first time since 1989-90, when they were 14-7 after 23 games. American also has the most wins in a campaign since 1995-96, when it went 12-15.

The Eagles concludes a three-game roadtrip in Lewisburg, Pa., on Wednesday, as the Eagles face Bucknell at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised live by the Patriot League Television Network (PLTV), and will be broadcast live in the Washington-Baltimore area by Comcast SportsNet.

American then returns home to face Lehigh on Saturday, Feb. 16. That game will also be televised by PLTV and Comcast SportsNet, with the opening tip set for 12:00 p.m.

American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1, 2001, after competing in the CAA since the 1985-86 academic year. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
