American Tops Bucknell 78-67 to Remain in First Place
Doctor Sets Career High With 31 Points to Lead Eagles

Patrick Doctor scored a career high 31 points against Bucknell, leading the Eagles to a 78-67 victory.

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- American University remained in first place in the Patriot League tonight, beating Bucknell 78-67. Patrick Doctor lead all scorers with 31 points and set his career high. Doctor shot 10-for-14 from the field and 11-for-13 from the free throw line. Steven Miles scored 14 points and added eight rebounds.

After Bucknell took a 11-10 lead early in the game, the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to gain a six-point edge. The Bison cut the lead to two, but Doctor converted an old-fashinoned three-point play to stretch the lead back to five with under eight minutes to go in the first half.

Doctor continued his hot streak, as he scored 13 straight American points, including seven-for-seven from the free throw line, as the Eagles opened a 30-19 lead. Nick Boyd hit two three-pointers as the lead stretched to 36-21. The teams traded baskets and American lead 40-26 at the half. Doctor had 19 points and shot nine-for-nine from the foul line.

A Keith Gray dunk stretched the lead to 49-30 early in the second half. Another three-point play by Doctor gave the Eagles a 56-35 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining. A Miles lay-up on a fast break gave the Eagles a 60-37 lead and forced the Bison to call a timeout.

Bucknell went on an 16-2 run to close the gap to 62-53 with just under seven minutes to play in the half. Miles hit two jumpers and a three-pointer as the extended the Eagles lead to 14. American sealed the game with a Glenn Stokes steal and then an alley-oop to Boyd with under a minute remaining.

Bryan Bailey led Bucknell with 23 points and nine rebounds. Boyd added 11 points for the Eagles, while Stokes sscored 10.

American returns to the friendly confines of Bender Arena on Saturday to face Lehigh. The game will be played at 12:00 p.m. and will be televised on Comcast SportsNet.
