Senior forward goes back-to-back 30-point games

February 18, 2002

Patrick Doctor recorded back-to-back 30-point games while leading American to a 2-0 week. He earned his second straight PL Player of the Week award.
WASHINGTON -- Continuing to be a dominant force, American University’s Patrick Doctor (Brandywine, Md./Gwynn Park) was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week this afternoon, as announced by the league office. It is the second straight week that the senior forward has won the award, and the fourth time an American student-athlete has been honored, the most by any of the eight league schools.

A senior forward, Doctor averaged 30.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Eagles, leading them to a road win at Bucknell and a home victory over Lehigh on Saturday. He was a stifling 20-of-30 (.667) from the field and 21-25 (.840) from the free-throw line.

Doctor recorded a career-high 31 points in the win over Bucknell, and followed that with 30 points in the Lehigh win. He became just the fourth player in American basketball history to score 30 points in two straight games.

American (15-10, 9-3 Patriot League) has now won seven of its last nine games, including two straight, and sits alone in first place in the Patriot League standings. The Eagles hold a one-game advantage over Holy Cross, which stands in second at 8-4. American has also guaranteed itself a winning season for the first time since 1990-91, when they went 15-14.

The Eagles conclude the regular-season this week with a road game at Navy on Wednesday, and the regular-season finale at home on Saturday against Holy Cross.

American University became a full member of the Patriot League on July 1, 2001, after competing in the CAA since the 1985-86 academic year. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
