Steve Miles Named to All-Patriot League First-Team
Stokes and Petrauskas earn honors

Steve Miles was named to the All-Patriot League First-Team.

WASHINGTON - American University senior Steve Miles (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) was named to the Patriot League First-Team, while senior Glenn Stokes (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) was named to the Patriot League Second-Team. Sophomore Raimondas Petrauskas (Mazeikiai, Lithuania/Lithuanian Physical Culture Academy) was the third Eagle honored, when he earned a spot on the Patriot League All-Rookie Team.

Miles earned the Player of the Week award just two days ago (3/3/03), after he scored 46 points in two games to lead the Eagles to wins over Army and Lafayette. For the year, he led the Eagles in scoring 15 times, and rebounding nine times. He currently leads the team in scoring (16.4 ppg.), minutes played (918), three-pointers made (80), and rebounding (5.4 per game). He is second in assists (63), and fourth in steals with 19.

In Patriot League play, Miles snared the overall scoring title in the last game of the season (16.4 ppg.). He outscored Lafayette’s Justin DeBerry 25-2, finishing the year with 444 points, three ahead of DeBerry. Miles finished first in three-pointers made (2.96 per game), fifth in defensive rebounds (4.33 drpg.), eighth in three-point field goal percentage (38.3), 10th in rebounding (5.4 rpg.) and 11th in assists (2.33 apg.).

Stokes is a repeat winner, as he was named to the Patriot League Second-Team last year. This season, Stokes won the Player of the Week award on Feb. 10, after he scored 25 points to lead the Eagles to a 70-56 win over Bucknell. Stokes was outstanding from the field, hitting on eight-of-12 field goal attempts and five-of-eight three-pointers. For the year, he led the Eagles in scoring 13 times, and assists five times. He is second in scoring (15.1 ppg.), minutes played (903) and three-pointers made (74). He is tops in free throw percentage (81.7) and three-point shooting percentage (40.2). His 42 steals ties him for first in team honors, and his 59 assists was third on the team.

In Patriot League play, Stokes was second in made threes (2.74 per game), tied for fourth in steals (1.56 spg.), fifth in both scoring (15.1 ppg.) and three-point field goal percentage (40.2), and 14th in assists (2.19 apg.).

Petrauskas had an outstanding first season for the Eagles. He played in all 27 games, shot 49.2 percent (31-63) from the field, averaged 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. His top offensive effort was against Lehigh (1/18/03), when he scored nine points in 18 minutes. He grabbed six rebounds on two occasions, and had three blocks versus St. Francis.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
