Jernavis Draughn was just one rebound short of a double-double vs. Wagner.

Wagner knocks off American by 14, 69-55
Steve Miles leads way with 15 points

Staten Island, N.Y. — Senior Steve Miles (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) led American with 15 points, three rebounds and three treys, but it was not enough as the Seahawks of Wagner took home a 14-point win, 69-55.

American fell behind 38-24 after the first 20 minutes of the game. The Eagles turned it over ten times and shot just 9-24 in the first half. A Jernavis Draughn (Triangle, Va./Potomac Senior) layup with 8:44 remaining brought the Eagles to within four points, 18-14. However, Wagner went on a 20-6 run to close out the half.

Draughn had one of his finest outing of the year. He scored 13 points on 5-of 9 shooting and also pulled down nine rebounds, leaving him one shy of his second double-double of the year. Andres Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Louisville) was extremely efficient for AU. He scored eight points on 3-of-4 shooting and dished out six assists without a turnover.

American never quit in the second half, The lead went past 20 on a couple of occasions, but eventually AU played Wagner to a 31-31 tie in the second 20 minites. Glenn Stokes (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) scored all nine of his points in the second half. Stokes finished with nine points, two assists and two streal. His three treys give him 72 for a career, and he is now just nine from breaking into AU’s top ten list for career threes made.

American could not stop Wagner’s Jermaine Hall,he was 8-8 in the first half, who finished with 26 points, eight rebounds, one block and one steal.

American (4-6) will next play at home versus George Washington on January 2, 2003. The game is at 5:30 p.m. and will be televised live bu Comcast SportsNet. Chick Hernandez and Chris Knoche will provide the play-by-play and color respectively.
