Andres Rodriguez was named First Team All Patriot League.

March 3 , 2004

WASHINGTON - Senior guard Andres Rodriguez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Louisville) was named First Team All-Patriot League while freshman Andre Ingram (Richmond, Va./Highland Springs) was selected as both the 2004 Patriot League Freshman of the Year and to the All-Freshman Team. The voting was conducted by the Patriot League’s coaches and was announced by PL officials today.

Rodriguez has had a sensational season and has broken several records for the Eagles this season. He has dished out 210 assists, which is the second-best season in AU history just behind Gordon Austin’s total of 247 (1982-83). He is fourth on the career ladder with 450 assists and his season-high of 19 assists against Navy on Jan. 14 is the best in Division I this year. He also has 72 steals this season, which is the sixth-best season in AU history and his career total of 158 is good for tenth all-time. He is currently third in the nation in assists per game at 7.5 and he has played 40 minutes or more on nine occasions this season. He is in seventh place in League history in assists (443) and he is in 12th place in steals (157).

Ingram quickly went from freshman to the Eagles leading scorer at 14.1 points per game. He led the Eagles in three-pointers made (75), three-pointers attempted (188) and finished the regular season just five points shy of 400. He had at least one three-pointer in 20 straight games and his best effort was against Navy on Jan. 14 when he connected on eight of them. He had a pair of double-doubles this season and his total of 75 treys is the seventh-best single-season in AU history. He finished fourth in the league in scoring (14.1 ppg.) and first in three-pointers made with 75.

“I am very happy for both of them. We asked Andres (Rodriguez) to really step it up this year and he certainly did,” said American University head coach Jeff Jones. “Andre (Ingram) needed to be a scorer for us this year and he ended up being our leading scorer.”

AU will play Army on Saturday, March 6. Game time is 5 p.m. The first two rounds of the 14th-annual Patriot League Tournament will be held at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.
