Marut and Caccavale Earn
Brine Player of the Week Honors
Eagles 5-7-1 overall, and 1-3-0 in the Patriot League

WASHINGTON- American University freshman Salvatore Caccavale (West Islip, West Islip) was named Patriot League Brine Rookie Player of the Week for the week of October 20, while teammate David Marut (Winchester, Va./John Handley/Old Dominion) was named the Brine Offensive Player of the Week. This is the second time Caccavale has received this award this season.

Caccavale and Marut worked together throughout the week as Marut scored against Princeton with an assist from Caccavale. The Eagles were able to defeat Princeton, 3-0. Marut was also able to score his second goal of the week unassisted against Colgate.

Later in the week Marut returned the assist as Caccavale took a pass from him to score early in the second half against Colgate. The Eagles were able to triumph again as AU edged out Colgate, 3-2.

The Eagles are now 5-7-1 in regular season play, and 1-3-0 in the Patriot League. AU will take on Loyola at 7 p.m., October 22.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, completed its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and a regular-season title in men’s basketball.
