American Men’s Soccer Signs Five Student-Athletes to National Letters of Intent
February 7, 2004 WASHINGTON – American University head men’s soccer coach Todd West announced today the Eagles have signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The Class of 2008 is led by JP Kuykendall (Vienna, Va.), who becomes the fourth member of the Kuykendall family to play for American University, and also includes Jeremy Frost (Clifton, Va.), Chris Sedlak (Valrico, Fla.), Ryan Jenkins (Manassas, Va.) and John Jarvie (San Diego, Calif.). “This is a very solid recruiting class, which will make the team much deeper than in previous years,” said West. “ After losing just one senior to graduation from last year, each of these players has the ability to start. The only question is how quickly they will adjust to the Division I college game.” Kuykendall, the brother of Shawn and Kris Kuykendall and the son of Kurt Kuykendall, was a defensive central midfielder for Madison High School. He graduated in 2003, but deferred attending American University so that he could train in Europe for one year, He is currently playing for an amateur club called Top Oss in Holland. Frost is a defender, who has played for the very successful amateur club Reston FC 85 for the past three years as well as for several of the D.C.United youth teams. He played his high school soccer for Paul VI Catholic and was a two-year starter for the Panthers. Sedlak is a goalkeeper,
who played with the same club (Brandon Flames) as current Eagle Garth
Juckem. Sedlak has been the starting goalie for the Region III Olympic
Development and recently participated in the U-20 National Team camp in
Chula Vista, Calif. He was named an NSCAA High School All-American as
a senior. Jarvie is a defender who played club soccer for the Hotspurs USA Elite. He will compete for time as a center back or out wide as a left-sided defender. American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its third year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, field hockey, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and regular season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
