WASHINGTON - Jonah
Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) took home two singles victories
and pushed his winning streak to 11 as he helped the AU men's tennis team
capture two tough wins, one over Boston College (5-2) and one over Patriot
League foes, Army (4-3).
Playing in the No.
4 position against Army, Fliegelman defeated C. Fisher, 6-4, 6-3. Against
Boston College, he moved up to the third position and defeated Kieren
Laughlin, 7-5, 6-2.
Against Army, the Eagles took home two of the three doubles victories
and three singles victories. Tushar
Garg (Mumbai, India / Bradenton Academy) defeated Rafael Albornoz
in the second singles spot, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, while at the top position of
doubles, he and partner Andreas
Kulcsar (Nuremberg, Germany/Neues Gum. Nuremberg) fell to John Sabia
and Albornoz, 8-6.
Against Boston College the Eagles once again took home the doubles point
by winning two of the three matches. Guillaume
Tarralle (Paris, France / French International School) and Juancarlo
Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo de Superior Vocational/Saint
John’s) defeated Paul Colohan and Ross Pytko, 8-4 at the No. 2 position,
while Fliegelman and Jason
Harris (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Crossroads) defeated Soma Kesthely
and Derick Chou in a close 9-7 at No. 3.
In singles, Tarralle fell to Justin Slottery at No. 1, in a heartbreaking
5-7, 6-3, 11-9 match that went into a superbreaker set due to the sun
going down. Harris also was forced into a superbreaker set in the No.
6 position, but emerged victorious, defeating Colohan, 5-7, 6-3, 11-8.
The Eagles are now 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the Patriot League. They will
