Men's Tennis Moves on to Patriot League Championships
Eagles defeat Navy, 4-1

Juancarlo Vazquez took home the first victory for the Eagles against Navy.

WASHINGTON - The AU men's tennis team swept all four singles matches to defeat the Navy Midshipman, 4-1, in the first round of the Patriot League tournament. They will now move onto the championship match against the winner of the Army/Colgate match.

The Eagles opened up the match, dropping the doubles point, regardless of an 8-6 win in the first position by Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India / Bradenton Academy) and Andreas Kulcsar (Nuremberg, Germany/Neues Gum. Nuremberg).

In singles, sophomore Juancarlo Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo de Superior Vocational/Saint John’s) took home the first victory for the Eagles, defeating Davy Lee, 6-0, 6-2, in the fourth spot. Garg followed suit, defeating Stanley Kahl in an even 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1.

Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France / French International School ) brought home another point for the Eagles in the third spot, defeating Brandon Carter, 6-4, 6-2, while Kulscar secured American's spot in the finals with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the sixth spot.

The Eagles fought hard in doubles, despite dropping the point. Tarralle and Jason Harris (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Crossroads) battled for the victory, but fell 8-5 in the second position. Seniors Jonah Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) and Ruben Rivero (Sevilla, Spain / Suffolk County Community College) also battled game by game, only to fall 9-7 in the end.

With the victory, the Eagles will now move on to the Patriot League championships, Sunday April 25 at 9 a.m. The match will take place at the American University Tennis Courts.
