AU Men’s Tennis To Make Third NCAA Appearance
Against University of Virginia

Eagles will look for first tournament win

WASHINGTON- The AU men’s tennis team will look for their first NCAA victory, May 14 as they face No. 6 University of Virginia in the first round of the tournament. The match will begin at 10:00 a.m.

The last time the Eagles faced the Cavalier, they emerged victorious, defeating UVa., 5-2 (4/2/02). If AU wins again, it will mark the programs first NCAA victory, and will go on to face the winner of the Wake Forest/Mississippi State match that will take place on the same date.

Coming off their third consecutive Patriot League Championship victory, the Eagles will be led by six seniors. Tushar Garg (Mumbai, India / Bradenton Academy) and Andreas Kulcsar (Nuremberg, Germany/Neues Gum. Nuremberg) will play for the Eagles in the No. 1 doubles position, while Guillaume Tarralle (Paris, France / French International School) and Juancarlo Vazquez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Centre Educativo de Superior Vocational/Saint John’s) will play in the No. 2 doubles spot. Seniors Jonah Fliegelman (Philadelphia, Pa. / Central) and Ruben Rivero (Sevilla, Spain / Suffolk County Community College) will round out the team’s doubles play in the third spot.

American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, completed its third year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, field hockey and women’s volleyball, and two regular-season titles in men’s basketball.
