Swimming and Diving Defeats Army in Final Dual Meet of 2001-02 Season Meet Results -- Jan. 26, 2002 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The American men's and womens swimming and diving teams defeated Patriot League foe Army in their final dual meet of the season in Bender Arena. The men edged out the Black Knights, 157-137, while the women won by a score of 151-122. To start the meet,
the Eagles took the first two events, the men's and women's 400-yard medley
relay. For the women, Elizabeth
Bresnahan-McRae, Maria Ortiz,
Lidstrom continued to compete well throughout the day, claiming first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.91), 50-yard freestyle (25.01) and 100-yard freestyle (53.82). Other women's first-place finishers included Junkal Irigoien, who claimed the 100-yard backstroke in 59.78 amd the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.19; Stina Lindman, who took the 100-breastroke with a 1:06.30 and the 200-yard breastroke with a 2:25.03; Elizabeth West, first-place finisher in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.80); Sarai Justes, winner of the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.73; and Lindsay McDavitt, who took the 400-yard Individual Medley (IM) in 4:43.22. The Eagles also claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay event. The team of Junkal Irigoien, Julia Pollock, Nicole Bogusky, and Sarai Justes finished in 3:42.00 for 11 points and first place. The American men also dominated the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of Tim Miller, Mark Liscinsky, Erik Hollingshead, and Ethan Bassett won in 3:10.49. Top finishers for the American men included Ethan Bassett, first-place finisher in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:00.40) and 500-yard freestyle (4:37.96); Mark Liscinsky, who won the 100-yard backstroke (50.97), 50-yard freestyle (21.37) and 200-yard backstroke (1:52.45); Dominick Szabo, winner of the 100-yard breastroke (56.23) and 200-yard breastroke (2:03.91); and Steve Maher, who claimed the 100-yard butterfly in 52.18. The Eagles recently
returned from a trip to San Sebastian, Spain, where they competed in the
VI Torneo Ciudad. Both the women and men are now readying for the Patriot
League Championships, scheduled for Feb. 14-16 at the U.S. Naval Academy
in Annapolis, Md.
