Named ECAC, Patriot League Swimmer of the Week Jan. 30, 2002 WASHINGTON, D.C. -- American University junior Mark Liscinsky (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was named the Swimmer of the Week for Mens Swimming by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Liscinsky also earned the Male Swimmer of the Week nod by the Patriot League in the same week. Liscinsky captured three first-place finishes in Americans 157-137 defeat of the United States Military Academy, the 2001 defending Patriot League Swimming and Diving Champion. He won the 100-yard backstroke, the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke in the Eagles last home meet of the 2001-02 season. Liscinskys three first-place finishing times place him among the top-ten fastest times in American history in the events. His time of 50.97 in the 100-yard backstroke was the fourth-fastest all-time in the event. Liscinsky also currently holds the all-time record in the 100-yard backstroke (49.79), set in 2001. His 21.37 in the 50-yard freestyle puts Liscinsky at eighth place all-time in the event, and he also holds the fourth-fastest 50-yard freestyle time in American history, a 20.97 set in 2001. Finally, in the 200-yard backstroke, Liscinskys time of 1:52.45 places him at third all-time; he also holds the all-time record in this event with a time of 1:46.28 set in 2001. In other all-time records, Liscinsky sits at second in the 100-yard freestyle event with a record time of 45.33 set in 2001. The American swimming
and diving teams are gearing up over the next two weeks for the Patriot
League Championships, which will be held at the U.S. Naval Academy in
Annapolis, Md., on Feb. 14-16.
