Tight After Day Two of Patriot League Championships Feb. 16, 2002 ANNAPOLIS, MD. -- The American men sit in second place and the women are in third heading into the final day of competition at the 2002 Patriot League Swimming & Diving Championships, taking place at Navys Lejeune Hall through the evening of Saturday, Feb. 16. The American swimmers were once again on a record pace on the second day of competition, breaking three more Patriot League Championship meet records on day two after setting three new marks on opening day. In the preliminary heat of the 100-yd backstroke, American junior Mark Liscinsky topped the old mark of 50.14 set by Bucknells Don Steenson in 1992 with a time of 50.12 and broke his own record in the final with a time of 49.87. Liscinsky also anchored the 800-yd freestyle relay team to a first-place finish (6:50.28).
The Patriot League Championships continue through the evening of Saturday, February 16. After the second day of competition, the American men are in second place with 434 points while the women sit in third place with 394 points. The 2002 Patriot League Championships will take place at Lejeune Hall at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Preliminary events will begin at 10:30 a.m. and finals will be held in the evenings starting at 6:00 p.m. Scoring will follow NCAA rues. A competitor may swim in a maximum of seven events of which no more than three may be individual events. Each team may have no more than 18 competitors in the meet. Spectator tickets
to the championship will be on sale at the door one hour prior to the
beginning of the meet. There will be no advance sale of tickets. Visitors
are not allowed to dirve on the Yard; visitors will park at the Navy/Marine
Corps Memorial Football Stadium and take a shuttle bus to Lejeune Hall.
