ANNAPOLIS, MD.
-- The American mens swimming and diving team finished in second
place at the Patriot League Championships while the women earned a third
place finish at the event held from Feb. 14-16. Junior standout Mark
Liscinsky was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet while seventh-year
head coach Mark Davin was selected as the
Mens Coach of the Year.
The Lehigh men and
the Navy women took home the team crowns at the Patriot League Swimming
and Diving Championships. Four more Championship records fell on the final
day in the pool, bringing the three-day total to 11 new records.
Liscinsky, who had already broken two PL records entering the final day
(100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley), posted another record
time in the 200-yard backstroke on day three final mark of 1:47.81. He
had originally set the bar with a 1:49.40 in the event preliminaries that
morning. Liscinsky was also a member of the 800 and 400-yard freestyle
relay teams. Liscinsky also qualified for the NCAA Championships on Thursday
with his league record time of 1:48.59 in the 200-yard individual medley.
American sophomore Dominick Szabo
set another record on day three, after touching the wall first in the
200-yd breaststroke in a time of 2:00.10, which is also a NCAA provisional
qualifying effort. Teammate and fellow sophomore Ethan
Bassett finished second in the event and also hit the NCAA provisional
mark with a time of 2:00.37 in the final.
Meanwhile, the American women posted a strong overall performance over
the championships, with their most outstanding effort coming on day three.
The Eagles had the most victories of any team on the last day, led by
senior Junkal Irigoien in the
200-yard backstroke (2:02.71). Rounding out the list of Eagle winners
were sophomore Jessica Lidstrom
with a 51.95 in the 100-yard freestyle and junior Stina
Lindman who had a 2:21.88 in the 200-yd breaststroke.
The mens and womens swimming and diving teams will be competing
at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships held on Feb.
22-24. The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships run from March 14-16
for the women and March 21-23 for the men.
