Liscinsky Named ECAC Division I Swimmer of the Week
Junior broke three league records at PL Championships

Feb. 21, 2002

WASHINGTON -- An All-Patriot League First Team selection and the 2002 Men’s Swimmer of the PL Championship Meet, American junior Mark Liscinsky has added to his growing list of honors, as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) recently named him the Swimmer of the Week for Division I.

Liscinsky toppled three records at last weekend’s Patriot League Championships, breaking each mark twice in the preliminaries and finals. Liscinsky set the new records with a 1:48.59 in the 200-yard individual medley, a 50.14 in the 100-yard backstroke and a 1:47.81 in the 200-yard backstroke.

The American men came in second at the 2002 Championships in their inaugural season of competition in the Patriot League. The men broke six total league records over three days of competition and had six selections to the All-Patriot League team. Seventh-year head coach Mark Davin was also honored after his inaugural season of coaching in the Patriot League, as he earned the Men’s Swimming Coach of the Year in 2002.

American University, which is in its inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League, officially joined the conference on July 1. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
