Eagles Break Two CAA Records, Post Four First Place Finishes on Day

Szabo and the men's 400 medley relay squad set records

The American University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams garnered four individual championship titles, while setting two CAA records on the second day of events at the CAA Swimming & Diving Championships held in Fairfax, Va.

Dominick Szabo (Fr., N.Wales, PA/North Penn) led AU by finishing first in the Men's 200 IM, after breaking the CAA meet record in the preliminaries (149.80), and was also a member of the record breaking men's 400 medley (3:18.89) relay team that consisted of Mark Liscinsky (So., Olney, MD/Sherwood), Johan Setterberg (Sr., Molndal, Sweden/Alleskolan), and Will Maher (Sr., Lincoln, RI/Lincoln). Liscinsky also finished second in the 200 IM. Ethan Bassett (Fr., Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill) finished first in the 500 free, while Frank Byskov (Sr., Viborg, Denmark/Viborg Amts Gymnasium) came in second.

The women's 400 medley relay team tied for first place. Junkal Irigoien (Jr., San Sebastian, Spain/Compania de Maria), Stina Lindman (So., Skane, Sweden/Pohlhemsskolan), Kia Kilpinen (Fr., Trangsund, Sweden/The Swedish School), and Jessica Lidstrom (Fr., Trangsund, Sweden/The Swedish School) swam a competitive race to come even with the James Madison team. Irigoien also placed second in the 200 IM.

Both teams will continue to compete throughout the weekend at the George Mason University Aquatic Center in Fairfax, Va.
