and Diving Earns All-American Academic Accolades March 11, 2002 WASHINGTON --
The American men's and women's swimming and diving teams each recently
earned spots on the Academic All-American List for team GPA in the fall
2001 semester. The men finished with an 11th place finish in the nation
among all Division I swimming and diving programs while the women finished
in 13th place. Both the men's and women's teams have received an Academic
All-American team award every semester for the past seven years. The American men's team earned a 3.094, placing them 11th in the national rankings. St. Peter's College had the highest team GPA for men with a 3.37. As the American mens swimming and diving team gears up to compete at the US Open and NCAA finals in the coming weeks, sophomores Ethan Bassett and Dominick Szabo recently competed in the Potomac Valley Senior Championships last weekend. Bassett turned in a strong individual performance at the event, earning two second-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard breastroke. American men's swimming and diving is coming off a second place in the Patriot League Championships, their inaugural league championships, held from Feb. 14-16. Junior standout Mark Liscinsky was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet while seventh-year head coach Mark Davin was selected as the Mens Coach of the Year. The NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships run from March 14-16 for the women and March 21-23 for the men.
