Swimming
& Diving Teams Participate in 5K for Charity Sept. 17, 2001
In addition to the 5K race, the charity event also included a 5K walk and different spring events for children ages 12-14 and 11 and under. AU's swimming and diving teams had the largest participating group in the race with 38 competitors and the Eagles raised $750 for the Medical Center. Coach Frank Byskov led the men's team and finished 19th overall (5th in his age group) with a time of 18:59. Senior Matt Mosher came in 29th overall with a time of 19:27. On the women's side, junior Stina Lindman completed the course in 22:16, finishing 12th for overall females and 8th in her age group. Immediately following Lindman was sophomore Brennan Hogan who finished in 22:18, earning first place in her age group. "The Children's National Medical Center is tremendously deserving and we were glad to be a part of this great event," said head coach Mark Davin following the race. "It was a beautiful day and the entire team had a great time racing. It was especially satisfying to see alumni Julie Andreef ('94) and Niels Jensen ('95) join us in the event." The Men's and Women's
swimming and diving teams have participated in at least two volunteer
projects for charities in each of the past six years including events
for Habitat for Humanity, Children's Starlight Foundation, Women's Cancer
Awareness and other charity events held at American University.
