Womens Swimming and Diving Finishes Second at Indiana University
(Pa.) Invitational Meet Results -- Dec. 3, 2001 INDIANA, PA. -- The American womens swimming and diving team finished second at this weekends invitational held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The Eagles score of 318 was second to only Wagner College, the womens first-place finisher with 394.5 points. Junior Jessica Lidstrom, competing in the A heat, finished first in the 100-yard freestyle event in 53.41, giving the Eagles 16 points. In the 200-yard backstroke, freshman Lindsay McDavitt came in second in the A heat with a time of 2:12.30 and scored 13 points for her team, while junior Elizabeth Bresnahan-McRae finished fourth in the A heat with a time of 2:13.63, notching 11 points. Freshman Cassie Cullen competed in the B heat in the 200-yard backstroke and finished 11th overall for two team points. The Eagles finished in three of the top four slots in the 200-yard butterfly event. In the A heat, junior Elizabeth West won the event in 2:10.41, earning 16 team points. Sophomore Kia Kilpinen finished third and notched 12 points with a time of 2:14.16, and junior Nicole Bogusky came in fourth with a time of 2:14.64 and earned 11 points. Sophomore Lian Tay competed in the B heat and finished in 11th place with 2:26.54 for two team points. The Eagles also claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay event. The team of Lindsay McDavitt, Elizabeth West, Kia Kilpinen, and Jessica Lidstrom finished in 3:40.26 for 18 points and first place. Meanwhile, the American men were missing a few of their top swimmers who were competing at other tournaments this weekend, and finished fifth in team scoring with 209 points. Senior Matt Mosher claimed second place in the 1650-yard freestyle in 17:30.17, while freshman William Linnoila came in fourth in the same event with a time of 17:51.56. In the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Robert Clark came in third for the Eagles in 2:28.17, while Linnoila came in fifth with a time of 2:31.28. The Eagles have a
break until Dec. 26, when the teams return to action in Patriot League
competition and host Army at 12:00 p.m. in the Reeves Aquatic Center.
